National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Day
October 15, 2012
I need to take a moment to acknowledge this day along with all the other people who have been affected by pregnancy loss or infant loss. Losing my little baby this year has been the most difficult cross I’ve ever had to endure.
It is true that time and God’s grace help heal, but I think it’s also true that there will always be a certain lingering feeling of loss and sadness. What parent could ever forget or stop missing a child, even one they had only just begun to love?
I didn’t know until today that there was such a thing as National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Day, but it is fitting that there should be one. With statistics showing that about one in four pregnancies end in miscarriage, many people will be affected somehow in their lifetime, either directly or indirectly. To help heal from such a devastating loss, we have to grieve. And to have this grief and our children’s lives acknowledged on a special day is a very touching gesture.
I remember my little Jonah Nicholas in a special way today, and every day.
But I know he rejoices today, and every day, in God’s loving care.
And I rejoice in that.
