Review of “Lifeblood” by Werner Lind
July 18, 2012
Lifeblood is a captivating novel about a young woman vampire who suddenly finds herself in an unfamiliar land in an unfamiliar time. While trying to survive and keep her terrible secret from being discovered, Ana meets a handsome young man and struggles to live life under the burden of her curse.
I rarely purchase books on my Kindle, as there are so many free ones out there. However, I read the sample for this book, and I was hooked!
Lifeblood brims with suspense, romance, danger, and more; but I think my favorite thing
about it is the main character. Despite being a vampire, Ana is such a tenderhearted young woman who has suffered so much, that you can’t help but lament her pain and long for her happiness. Her old-time manner of speaking is endearing and believable.
I loved the flashbacks to the sixteen hundreds that show how Ana became a vampire and how she ended up in modern-day Iowa.
I don’t usually read vampire or supernatural novels, but this book stood out as being so much more than just a vampire story. And despite the subject matter, the novel is tastefully written, not filled with graphic violence and gore. The unsavory character uses some bad language, but you expect that, and it’s not overdone. I can safely say that Lifeblood fits into a Christian fiction reading list, and it’s delightfully different from a lot of the standard fare.
Lifeblood was well worth my money, and I highly recommend it!
